Normally I’d like to shake your hand, sit down in a coffee shop in, say Zanzibar, and we’d shoot the breeze. There’s a lot to talk about: a beautiful planet in crisis, inspiring people, desperate people, the energies of Africa, my favourite continent. But the world’s a big place and the internet is a marvellous communicator, so allow me to spend time with you this way.
I have many interests; I’m sure we share some. Both history and natural history are high on my list: I study them, write articles and books about and live in them. I guess this makes me a journalist and I’ve been that for more years than I can remember. I lectured journalism for 10 years and still teach it by internet. These days I mostly travel and photograph as a travel writer.
